JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) changed the assistance scheme for the Smart Indonesia Card or College KIP into Direct Cash Assistance or Student BLT.

With this change, later the scholarship, which previously amounted to Rp. 2.4 million, will be adjusted to the study program being pursued.

"So far, we have made KIP Lectures for social mobility to improve the abilities of our children so they can dream big. But if everything is ceilinged to Rp2.4 million per semester, what will happen will be that children who are less well off but with good achievements will become less confident. So they quickly lost first, so they chose the campus whose costs were still included in the KIP for College, "said Nadiem some time ago in a working meeting with Commission X DPR RI, quoted on Tuesday, March 23.

With this change in mechanism, the Ministry of Education and Culture also plans to increase the KIP Tuition budget in 2021 from Rp1.3 trillion to Rp2.5 trillion. This is done so that high-achieving children who are less able to enter the best campuses.

The number of students receiving KIP Lecture reaches 200 thousand new students, consisting of study program A as many as 61 thousand students, study program B as many as 112 thousand students and study program C as many as 27 thousand students.

Furthermore, the tuition fee per student at the 2020 KIP Tuition is IDR 2.4 million per semester, which is now changing, namely study program A of IDR 8 million per semester, study program B of IDR 4 million per semester and study program C of IDR 2.4 million per semester.

Furthermore, the cost of living in the KIP Lecture program, which was previously pegged at Rp. 700 thousand per semester, has now increased in Student BLT and is divided into five regional clusters according to the 2019 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas).

The five clusters are cluster one at Rp. 800 thousand per semester, cluster two at Rp. 950 thousand per semester, cluster three at Rp1.1 million per semester, cluster four at Rp1.25 million per semester, and cluster five at Rp1.4 million per semester.
