Compete With The United States And The European Union, China Is Compact With Russia

JAKARTA - Russia and China say they both want a summit meeting of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Tuesday, March 23. This comes out amidst world political turbulence.

This similar attitude was taken after the meeting of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi received a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Guilin, China, Monday, March 22.

"At a time of increasing global political turmoil, a summit of the permanent members of the UN Security Council is urgently needed, to establish direct dialogue on ways to solve problems with humanity, in the interest of maintaining global stability," said a statement on the Russian Foreign Ministry website. The statement did not mention the name of the United States (US). But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted by the TASS news agency as saying at a press conference after talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Moscow and Beijing were both unhappy with the US behavior.

Quoting Lavrov's statement, TASS said Washingtong relied on Cold War era military and political alliances to try to destroy the architecture of international law.

Starting a two-day trip to China on Monday, Lavrov issued calls on Moscow and Beijing to reduce their dependence on the US dollar. Tuesday's joint statement urged other countries to refrain from interfering in the domestic affairs of Russia and China.

Lavrov said Russia and China considered European and Western sanctions unacceptable.

On Monday, the United States, European Union, Britain and Canada imposed sanctions on several Chinese officials for alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

Russia is also bracing for a new round of US sanctions over what Washington says is meddling in the 2020 United States Presidential Election, which Moscow denies.

Lavrov, according to TASS, also criticized the European Union, accusing Brussels (the headquarters of the European Union is located) of destroying Russia-EU relations and saying Moscow only has individual relations with EU countries.
