Closed At 4 PM, This Is The Reason Monas Operational Time Is Not Returned Like Before The Pandemic

JAKARTA - The COVID-19 pandemic has passed. However, the operational time of the National Monument (Monas) area has not been returned as before the pandemic. Monas operating hours are valid until 16.00 WIB since the implementation of PPKM in mid-2022 until now.

Head of the Monas Regional Management Unit (UPK) Isa Sanuri said the reason the DKI Provincial Government did not restore Monas operations as before was to maintain the safety and comfort of visitors.

As a cultural heritage and national vital object in the Ring 1 area of the State Palace, the DKI Provincial Government has decided to continue to limit operational time because it is currently a political year, after the 2024 General Election and continued with the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.

"The safety and comfort of visitors is our priority. Given the importance of security aspects, especially in this political year, Monas operations are limited not until the evening. This restriction is the result of coordination with related Security Agencies to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors," Isa told reporters, Monday, July 29.

The DKI Provincial Government, continued Isa, continues to analyze the situation and conditions related to the safety and comfort of visitors at Monas. The plan is that on Saturdays and Sundays, Monas will resume operating until 22.00 WIB.

"We hope that in the near future, Monas can be opened until 22.00 WIB specifically on Saturdays and Sundays, so that people can enjoy the beauty of Monas at night safely and comfortably," explained Isa.

"We are committed to continuing to provide the best service for the convenience and safety of all," he added.

For information, questions asked by netizens on social media X about the operational time of Monas have not been returned to their original state.

"Jakarta has one of the largest open spaces in the world, but why is going to the park not the culture of the people of Jakarta? The problem is that at 4 pm it is closed," said the account X @adriansyahyasin in his tweet.

Currently, the Monas area on Tuesday to Sunday is limited to operating hours at 06.00-16.00 WIB, while the Monas monument operates at 08.00-16.00 WIB. On Monday, Monas operations are closed for maintenance.
