JAKARTA - Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The two ministers agreed to resolve the border issue as soon as possible.

The two countries share a long Himalayan border with most of its territorial borders poor, and relations between them have deteriorated since military clashes in July 2020 when 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers were killed.

Jaishankar met Wang on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Laos, just three weeks after their last meeting in Kazakhstan, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday, July 25.

"Agreeing with the need to provide strong guidance to complete the release process. Must ensure full respect for the LAC (Actual Control Room) and past agreements," Jaishankar said in a post on X.

Following their last meeting in Kazakhstan, Wang said the two countries should handle and control the situation in border areas while continuing normal exchanges in other regions.

The two countries that have nuclear weapons have strengthened their positions and deployed additional troops and equipment along the border since the conflict four years ago.

The two countries became neighbors who did not get along for decades after the bloody border war in 1962.

India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it and China agreed on the need to work with destination and urgency to achieve full release as early as possible.
