JAKARTA - The Aceh Regional Police (Polda) through DVI Biddokes conducted a DNA test of the police who were reported missing during the tsunami and found at the Banda Aceh Mental Hospital (RSJ). Tests are carried out to confirm the identity of the person concerned.

The Head of the Public Health Service, Kombes Arios Bismark, accompanied by the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Aceh Police, Kombes Winardy, said that DNA sampling was done through a buccal swap. His party also took the fingerprints in question.

"The examination is to confirm that it is true that members of the National Police were declared missing when the tsunami hit Aceh in 2004," said Kombes Arios Bismark, quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 20.

Apart from DNA Biddokkes, the Aceh Police have also examined the physical, such as birthmarks, facial specimens, and other authentic signs.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Aceh AKBP Wahyu Kuncoro said that his party had also checked fingerprints to help find out the identity of the suspected police officer who was called Asep.

"The fingerprint in question has been taken. The fingerprint is a strong proof of identity. Furthermore, the fingerprint will be matched," said Wahyu Kuncoro.

Previously, information circulated on social media that a member of the National Police who was assigned to Aceh named Asep with the rank of adjunct police brigadier (abrip) was reported missing when the tsunami was found at RSJ Banda Aceh.

Asep was previously a member of the troops under the operational control of Brimob Regiment II Kedung Halang Bogor on duty at the Peukan Brimob Post in Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar District in 2004. The post was flattened to the ground after being swept away by the tsunami.
