SIAK - A worker in the oil palm plantation of PT Sunli Acronia Sukses was killed by a Sumatran tiger, Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The victim named Yasonia Zega (43 years old) was found dead with a separate head from the body.

Siak Police Chief AKP Asep Sujarwadi said the incident occurred in an oil palm plantation owned by a company located in Hamlet II of Penanggat Village, Sungai Apit, Siak Regency, Riau.

"The victim at that time came out of the inn camp to urinate. The victim's friend, Ilham Sinaga, heard screams for help and saw a tiger drag the victim," said Asep, Wednesday.

After seeing the incident, other workers then tried to find victims in oil palm plantations. The victim was found about 20 meters from the camp in a pathetic condition.

"Yasonia was found in a separate state of the head and body. The victim was then taken to his family's house for burial," explained Asep.

Reflecting on this incident, Asep appealed to palm oil workers and the public not to do activities at night, especially in areas prone to conflict with tigers.

"We appeal to the public, especially at the scene of the incident, to always be vigilant with wildlife. Reduce activities at night," concluded Asep.

Currently, the police are coordinating with the Riau Conservation and Natural Resources Center (BBKSDA) to find solutions to conflicts between wildlife and humans.
