SYL's Family Called Judge Receiving Corruption Results, KPK Will Conduct Investigation

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will investigate the flow of corruption results enjoyed by the family of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo. The deepening will be carried out in conjunction with the money laundering crime (TPPU) that is being handled.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika when asked about the considerations of the Jakarta Corruption Court Panel of Judges which stated that Syahrul's family participated in enjoying the gratuity money.

"Meanwhile (about family involvement, ed) is being investigated at the ongoing SYL TPPU," Tessa told reporters quoted on Friday, July 12.

The Jakarta Corruption Court panel of judges previously concluded that the family of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo today, Thursday, July 11. Chief Judge Rianto Adam Pontoh conveyed this when reading aggravating things in gratification and extortion cases.

"The defendant and the defendant's family and colleagues have enjoyed the results of a criminal act of corruption," said Judge Rianto during a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

Still, in burdensome considerations, Syahrul was also considered convoluted when giving testimony in court, did not set a good example as a public official, and did not support the government's program in eradicating corruption, collusion and nepotism.

While mitigating considerations, SYL is already 69 years old, has never been convicted and has made a positive contribution as Minister of Agriculture to the country in handling the food crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The defendant received many awards from the government of the Republic of Indonesia for his work, as long as the observations of the panel of judges were polite during the examination at the trial, the defendant and the defendant's family had spent some of the money and goods from the proceeds of the corruption convict committed by the defendant," said Judge Pontoh.

Meanwhile, Syahrul was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was also asked to pay a fine of Rp. 300 million, a subsidiary of 4 months.

In addition, Syahrul was required to pay compensation of Rp. 14.1 billion and US$ 30 thousand. Payments must be made within one month after the decision has permanent legal force.
