Ukraine Asks Restrictions On The Use Of Weapons Supply By Allies To End

JAKARTA - Ukrainian Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak called for an end to restrictions imposed on the use of weapons supplied by allies against targets far away in Russian territory.

Andriy Yermak said it would be a "game changer" in fighting Moscow's occupation.

He did not mention specific limits imposed by the country, but comments came days after the White House reaffirmed its ban on Ukraine to carry out attacks deep within Russian territory with US-backed weapons, following a Russian missile attack on a child hospital in Kyiv.

Partners must remove all arms use restrictions not only in Ukrainian territory but also have the possibility to respond to (Russian attacks) including Russian territory, "Yermak said in a public forum on the final day of the 2024 NATO summit.

"It's impossible to fight them," he continued, stressing Russia has no limits whatsoever.

"The enemy can directly attack our civilians, children's hospitals, schools and we have those limits," he added.

"This will be a big change if Ukrainian allies lift all limits on their use of weapons and I hope our partners understand this and approve this decision as soon as possible," Yermak said.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has allowed Ukraine to use US-backed weapons to attack targets in Russian territory in support of Russia's offensive operations in Ukraine, but prohibits its use to attack deep within Russian territory.

On other issues, Yermak said Ukraine was satisfied with the results of the NATO summit in Washington with the final declaration that the decision taken was a "bridge" towards Ukraine's membership in the alliance.

"The next step is to invite Ukraine to join NATO," Yermak said.
