Gerindra: Evaluation of Latsarmil is a Momentum for Improvement, KDMP-KNMP to Continue

JAKARTA - Gerindra Party Spokesperson, Sugiat Santoso, expressed condolences over the incident that occurred during the implementation of the Basic Military Training Program (Latsarmil). According to him, this event should be a momentum to conduct a thorough evaluation without eliminating the big goals of community empowerment programs.

"We express our deepest condolences to the victims' families. May the deceased find the best place by the side of the Almighty God and the families left behind be given strength and fortitude to face this disaster," said Sugiat Santoso, Tuesday, June 30.

He emphasized that the safety of participants must be the top priority in every implementation of government programs. He asked that there be safety standards for participants.

"This incident must be thoroughly evaluated. Evaluation to ensure the safety, supervision, and governance standards for the implementation of the program are getting better so that similar incidents do not happen again," he said.

Sugiat said it was necessary to make improvements to all aspects of program implementation, from planning, implementation, to the supervision system.

"We want every government program to run professionally. Therefore, operational standards must be strengthened, risk mitigation must be clarified, and supervision in the field must be more optimal. This starts with data collection on the conditions of prospective participants before participating in activities," he said.

He also emphasized that the state must be present to accompany the victims' families. He said the handling must be done openly.

"The state must not be negligent. The government must ensure that the victims' families receive assistance, attention, and all the rights that are the responsibility of the state. Handling this case must also be done openly, transparently, and accountable so that the public can get clarity," said the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR.

However, Sugiat asked that the incident should not obscure the strategic objectives of the Red and White Village Cooperative Program (Kopdes MP) and the Red and White Fishermen Village (KNMP).

"The Red and White Kopdes and the Red and White Fishermen Village are strategic programs of the President to strengthen the rural economy, improve people's welfare, and encourage people's economic independence. This program must continue because the benefits are very great for the community," he said.

According to Sugiat, what needs to be improved is the implementation mechanism and governance, not stopping programs that have been designed to improve people's welfare.

"If there are shortcomings in the implementation, of course it must be improved. But the spirit of building villages, strengthening cooperatives, and improving the welfare of fishermen must not stop. In fact, we must ensure that all the program series are implemented with higher safety standards and better governance," he said.

He hopes that the results of the evaluation will later become the basis for improving the implementation of the program in the future.

"We want every government policy to really benefit the community. Therefore, evaluation must produce real improvements so that all strategic programs can run more safely, more professionally, and more accountable," concluded Sugiat.
