Golkar Still Submits Airin Forward Banten Gubernatorial Election, The Pair Is Still Being Evaluated

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party continues to propose the name of the former Mayor of South Tangerang, Airin Rachmi Diany as a candidate for governor in the 2024 Banten Pilkada. Although until now no other political party has expressed support and collaborated with the Golkar Party.

It is known that the Gerindra Party, fellow coalition supporters of Prabowo Subianto, carried Andra Soni-Dimyati Natakusumah, by bringing a number of parties, ranging from NasDem, PKS, PAN, to PSI.

General Chairperson of Golkar Airlangga Hartarto said Airin was still championed because he succeeded in carrying out his duties as Chairman of the Prabowo Regional Campaign Team Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Banten in the 2024 presidential election.

"Regarding Banten, Mrs. Airin and yesterday worked as a TKD in Banten, so of course, she should still support Mrs. Airin to advance in Banten," Airlangga said in a press conference at the Golkar Party DPP office, Slipi, Jakarta, Thursday, July 11.

Regarding the candidate for deputy governor accompanying Airin, Airlangga said his party was still evaluating the candidates. Meanwhile, PDIP proposed the name of the chairman of the Banten PDIP DPD, Adi Sumardi, to have a duet with Airin.

"Of course for our partner we will evaluate it in the next one or two months," said Airlangga.

Previously, PDIP DPP Chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat said his party would support Airin Rachmi Diany as a candidate for governor in the 2024 Banten Pilkada.

The Golkar Party cadre and former South Tangerang Mayor will be paired with the chairman of the Banten PDIP, Ade Sumardi.

"That's right (PDIP supports Airin, ed)," said Djarot, Thursday, July 11.

"For Banten (his deputy, ed) if I'm not mistaken, Mr. Ade, the chairman of the Banten DPD," he continued.

When asked about the duet of Andra Soni and Dimyati Natakusumah who have the potential to become PDIP rivals in the Banten Pilkada, Djarot admitted that PDIP is not worried about fighting a partner supported by a large kallsii. According to Djarot, the grand coalition is not necessarily winning.

"Just let it go, where did the elephants and ants win? That's why it's a hassle," he said.
