Ketum Golkar Responds Mahfud: As Long As No One Is Violated, The KPU Continues To Hold Pilkada

JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, said that as long as no violations were committed, the KPU commissioner was still worthy of holding the regional elections.

This was conveyed by Airlangga regarding the issue of the KPU's negligence in holding the 2024 Pilkada, as a result of the dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari from the KPU commissioner due to immoral cases.

"Yes, as long as nothing is violated, it will continue until now," said Airlangga, who is also the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 9.

He emphasized that the ethical violation committed by Hasyim Asy'ari had resulted in a permanent dismissal from the position of chairman concurrently a member of the KPU by the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP).

Previously, the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Polhukam), Mahfud Md, highlighted the quality of the General Elections Commission (KPU) after Hasyim Asy'ari's permanent dismissal as chairman by the Indonesian DKPP regarding immoral cases.

Through his personal X account, Mahfud assessed that the current KPU ranks do not deserve to be the organizers of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.

Acting Chairman of KPU Mochammad Afifuddin thanked Mahfud Md who highlighted his institution after the dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari as Chairman and member of the KPU by the DKPP.

Afifuddin considers Mahfud's statement an expression of affection for the democratic process.
