JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono highlighted the phenomenon of parents of students living in buffer areas leaving their children to be included in the KK of Jakarta residents. This is done for the sake of their children being able to get public schools in Jakarta.

This phenomenon, according to Heru, is one of the reasons why many Jakarta domicile students do not get public school days in accepting new students (PPDB). They often complain to the DKI Provincial Government.

"There are children who are entrusted to their aunts, enter their families to get the best schools in Jakarta. That is natural as parents and it is natural for children to receive educational rights. Therefore, DKI Jakarta cannot stand alone in resolving this," said Heru at Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, Friday, July 5.

Therefore, Heru asked local governments in buffer areas such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Bodetabek) to increase the number of public schools so that the phenomenon of boarding families does not happen again.

"I will leave it to the elected regents, mayors. Leave it to the central government, build a good school around there. So they don't look for quality education in Jakarta," said Heru.

"Actually, it's easy. Bekasi, for example (building) 5-6 good elementary schools, junior high and high school. Build good quality, Tangerang (also) that way, maybe in 2025, (building school) 5, in 2026 to build again, can," he added.

With regard to this, the Education Office (Disdik) has tightened the acceptance of new students (PPDB) in 2024. The Head of the Jakarta Education Office, Budi Awaluddin, emphasized that prospective new students (CPDB) could no longer ride KK to qualify in PPDB 2024.

"People who take family cards can no longer register in DKI Jakarta. So, those who ride KK or other family members can no longer register in DKI Jakarta," said Budi Awaluddin during a press conference at the DKI Jakarta Education Office.

However, Budi explained that there are exceptions for students who can still register even though they are on a family plan, provided that they have to be proven through an official certificate.

"Unless later, for example, parents both died, both of them continued to be taken care of by their grandfather or grandmother, later there will be a separate letter and they can bring it to us," he said.

Budi also emphasized that the CPDB that can participate in the 2024 Jakarta PPDB process must be a resident of Jakarta and also domiciled in Jakarta. This requirement must be proven by the KK which has been registered since the previous year, precisely since June 10, 2023. The KK will go through a verification process by officers.

In his statement, Budi explained that his party could still pass the CPDB who moved families if they had certain reasons, for example they no longer had parents. CPDB also has to prove population with KK and parents' ID cards domiciled in Jakarta.

"So those who do not live in Jakarta, apologize, yes, even though they have an ID card (parents) in Jakarta, they cannot register," said Budi.
