Regrets Hasyim Asy'ari Being Fired For Immoral Case, Puan: In The Future We Will Look For Better Figures

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, regretted the immoral act taken by the Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, which led to the dismissal by the Election Organizing Honorary Council (DKPP). According to Puan, as the leader of public officials, Hasyim Asy'ari should be able to maintain his attitude. "This should not have happened," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 4. Puan respects DKPP's decision to dismiss Hasyim from his position. He said the DPR would immediately process the dismissal of Hasyim after the presidential regulation (Perpres). "We respect the decision of the DKPP. Later after seven days the president issued the presidential decree, the DPR will process the existing mechanism," said Puan. Puan said, this case will be the material for the evaluation of the DPR and the organizer of the elections in the future. Because often the KPU commissioners are concerned with legal issues.

"Even if it exists, we must evaluate together. We must look for figures who may be better, and we will fix the existing mechanisms together," said the chairman of the PDIP DPP. It is known that Hasyim Asy'ari was proven to have committed immoral acts against a woman who became PPLN for European territory. In the session of the Election Organizers Honorary Council (DKPP) it was revealed that Hasyim had several times urged the victim to go together during a working visit in Europe. Armed with his position as Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim urged the victim to meet to have sex in October 2023.

"So finally the complainant felt forced to go several times with Teradu. At its peak, Teradu forced the complainant to have sex," said DKPP member in the DKPP Session room, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 3.

After the incident, Hasyim was said to have continued to approach the victim until he made a written statement in January 2024 and persuaded the victim to marry him.

"The defendant will show a serious commitment to marrying the complainant, including stating to become a'server' for the complainant," said a member of the DKPP.

Hasyim also promised to take care of the name of the apartment on behalf of the victim, provide the victim's needs during a visit in Indonesia, including tickets for the Dutch-Jakarta plane amounting to Rp. 30 million every month and meeting the victim's food needs once a week.

In addition, Hasyim promised to protect the victim's good name and mental health, not to marry another woman, and to give news at least once a day.

"And Teradu stated that if the statement cannot be fulfilled, then Defendants are willing to be given moral sanctions in the form of correcting actions that have not been fulfilled and paying an agreed fine of Rp. 4,000,000,000 (Rp. 4 billion) which will be paid in installments for 4 (four) years," reads Hasyim's statement stated in the DKPP decision.
