2 Elderly Women Died In Russian Attack On Ukrainian Nikopol

JAKARTA - A Russian attack on the city of Nikopol in Ukraine is killing two women aged 61 and 86 and injuring nine others.

Reported by Reuters on Tuesday, July 2, Governor Serhiy Lysak said the attack damaged housing, educational facilities and clinics in the city located across the Dnipro River from Russia's occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Nikopol has been the target of airstrikes since Russia's massive invasion in February 2022. Russia denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure, but thousands of people have been killed.

A counter-attack was also carried out by Ukraine. The Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, said a military strike destroyed Russia's ammunition warehouse in Moscow-occupied Crimea.

"Once again, the Ukrainian plane that was 'destroyed' by enemy propaganda continues to successfully carry out combat missions," Oleshchuk said on Telegram as reported by Reuters, Tuesday, July 2.

Oleshchuk referred to a report by the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding claims five Ukrainian military jets were destroyed on airfields in the Poltava area.

There were no reports of a exact location for the attack on the Russian ammunition warehouse in Crimea. But it is suspected that this attack occurred in Balaklava, near Sevastopol.

Russia's inaugurated Governor of Sevastopol, Mihail Razvozhaev, said on Monday, July 1, the Air Force destroyed five targets of Ukraine in the Black Sea and in the Balaklava district. He said there was no serious damage, except minor fires in the forest and car damage.
