SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa decided to continue to provide compensation of IDR 5 million to the heirs of victims who died from COVID-19.

Khofifah's decision was made because the Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini stopped giving the compensation.

"The Governor's decision is to ease the burden on the community," said Head of the East Java Social Service (Dinsos), Alwi, confirmed on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

Alwi said, SE of Khofifah's decision was contained in the Governor of East Java Circular Letter (SE) number 460/5026 / 107.4.07 / 2021 regarding Compensation for Victims of Death due to Covid-19 Infection to regents / mayors throughout East Java on March 12, 2021.

That way, the heirs of victims who died from COVID-19 will receive compensation of IDR 5 million.

Until March 4, 2021, the number of victims who died due to covid-19 in East Java reached 9,212 people. However, only about 2,144 people have received the Rp. 5 million compensation. This compensation will be carried out in stages.

"The first priority, compensation from the East Java Provincial Government is given to those who have submitted applications. For this reason, we have provided a circular to the regents / mayors, to immediately send the names of victims of the heirs due to Covid-19," he said.

According to Alwi, the East Java Social Agency has complete data on victims who died from COVID-19, according to their names and addresses. However, said Alwi, his party wanted a re-submission to make sure.

"There are around 7 thousand more victims who have not been supported. This compensation uses unexpected assistance funds. All of the compensation funds for COVID-19 victims are from the Provincial APBD. But if the regency / city wants to add, we welcome it," said Alwi.
