Indo-Australian Plate Shifted Picu Earthquake M 5.1 Pangandaran

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 rocked Pangandaran, West Java, Sunday, at around 23.06 WIB. BMKG information broadcast, the earthquake was centered at sea at a depth of 10 kilometers at coordinates 9.68 south latitude and 107.41 east longitude. The earthquake point was 250 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran Regency. The earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. BMKG appealed to the public to remain calm and not be affected by issues that could not be justified. Then, avoid buildings that were cracked or damaged by the earthquake. Check and make sure the residential building is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house.

BMKG revealed that the earthquake that rocked the southern region of West Java (Jabar) this morning was triggered by the activity of the Indo-Australian plate which plunged under the Eurasian Plate.

"It's a shallow earthquake with a thrust fault mechanism," said Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Daryono in a statement in Jakarta, Monday, July 1.

However, he ensured, the earthquake, which has the latest parameters with a magnitude of 5.0, did not cause a potential tsunami.
