JAKARTA - Turkish authorities managed to control the agricultural land fires that killed 12 people and injured 78 others in the area near the Turkish border with Syria and Iraq.
The fire broke out on the evening of Thursday, June 20, due to the burning of straw that was spreading due to strong winds, the local governor's office said.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said.
Local media reported the fire was now under control and authorities are trying to cool the charred area. NTV says many animals caught in the fire were also killed.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the treatment of injured victims was still ongoing, and some of them were in critical condition.
