JAKARTA - Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon supports the visit of the Executive Committee of the World Parliamentary Organization (Inter-Parliamentary Union/IPU) to Rafah in order to push for an immediate ceasefire.

The Executive Committee of the World Parliamentary Organization (Inter-Parliamentary Union/IPU) held its 293rd routine meeting in Zanzibar, Tanzania on June 18-21. The meeting was attended by Delegations from 12 countries representing Geopolyc groups at the IPU.

Present as members of the Executive Committee representing the Asia Pacific and the House of Representatives (DPR RI), namely the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon from the Gerindra Faction.

The meeting of the 293rd Executive Committee discussed the strategic agendas of the IPU organization in the future, as well as various internal problems whose solutions require a collective decision of the Executive Committee.

On that occasion Fadli Zon conveyed two important things; first, related to the allocation of the Parliamentary Solidarity Fund which will be provided as assistance to parliaments - parliaments whose countries are experiencing financial difficulties so that they are unable to be active in the IPU, as well as countries whose parliaments are not yet members of the IPU due to financial capacity limitations.

Regarding the Parliamentary Solidarity Fund, Fadli Zon supports the allocation of aid to Pacific countries, as recently received by the Vanuatu Parliament.

As for the second problem, the Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI requested that the Secretary General of the IPU be able to provide periodic reports regarding the progress of preparations for the planned departure of the IPU Delegation to Rafah, in order to push for an immediate ceasefire.

"I think the planned visit to Rafah is a form of IPU's responsibility as a Parliamentary Organization throughout the world to seek to immediately stop violence and violations of human rights, especially against the Palestinian people". This was confirmed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra DPP.

Fadli also asked the IPU Secretariat to include representatives from the Executive Committee in the planned visit.
