JAKARTA - The Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi stated that his party did not prohibit the public from carrying out the Eid 2021 homecoming, even though the COVID-19 pandemic had not yet subsided.
"Regarding homecoming, in principle, the Ministry of Transportation does not prohibit it," Budi said at a Working Meeting with Commission V DPR RI, Tuesday, March 16.
However, he said, the Ministry of Transportation and the COVID-19 Task Force would create a strict health protocol mechanism related to the implementation of this year's homecoming.
"We will coordinate with the task force, that the homecoming mechanism will be arranged together with tightening and tracing those who are doing homecoming," he continued.
Budi assessed that there was a potential increase in passengers after the COVID-19 vaccination ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
"We have mapped it. There will definitely be a surge, the vaccination program is predicted to make people want to travel," he explained.
Budi revealed that the Ministry of Transportation had issued six policies so that the implementation of this year's Eid homecoming will run smoothly.
First, it will closely guard the health prokotol of passengers in transportation facilities and infrastructure. Second, ensuring the availability of land, sea, air and rail transportation services.
"The three Kemenhub will ensure negligence of transportation facilities and infrastructure for the implementation of the Lebaran homecoming," he said.
Fourth, Kemenhub will also improve order and security. Fifth, carry out intensive coordination with various stakeholders.
"The sixth carried out traffic engineering, and the seventh carried out monitoring and evaluation," said Budi.
