House In Duren Sawit Destroyed By 12 Kg Elpiji Explosion, 1 Person Seriously Injured

JAKARTA - A resident's house on Gang Haji Mein Street, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta, suddenly fell apart after an explosion from a 12 kilogram gas cylinder. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 15.

When there was an explosion of 12 kilograms of gas cylinders, it was accompanied by sparks that burst into flames.

However, the fire was successfully extinguished by residents who came to the scene when the sound of an explosion was heard.

"Residents swiftly extinguished the fire with APAR," said Gulkarmat Sector Duren Sawit officer, Ibnu when confirmed, Sunday, June 16.

Residents then reported to the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. to evacuate the occupants of the house.

"From the information that there was an explosion of gas cylinders, we went to the location, it turned out that the fire had been extinguished. We helped evacuate the building (destroyed due to the explosion)," he said.

As a result of the 12 kilogram gas cylinder explosion, four occupants of the house were victims and suffered minor injuries. They were successfully evacuated by officers.

However, one other victim suffered burns of up to 60 percent. The victim's body skin is thought to have been peeled due to gas and fire bursts.

From the information gathered, the explosion came from a 12 kilogram gas cylinder belonging to the owner of the house, which was known to have stored several 12 kilograms of gas cylinders in his house.

"The victim suffered burns named Radiman aged 62 years. Then when the explosion occurred, there were 4 residents in the house who were also affected. One gas cylinder exploded," he said.

Regarding the incident, East Jakarta Gulkarmat officers have not been able to conclude the exact cause of the gas cylinder explosion.

Meanwhile, the case is under investigation by the Duren Sawit Police. The police also confiscated evidence of several pink gas cylinders from the scene for forensic lab tests.
