Tanker Ship Again Hit by Missile Attack in Strait of Hormuz

JAKARTA - A tanker ship was reportedly attacked again in the Strait of Hormuz. It is not known who is responsible for the attack.

The cargo ship sent an emergency call via VHF Channel 16 on Tuesday morning local time, stating that the ship was hit by an "unknown projectile," said the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The unnamed tanker was hit in a location about 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) northeast of Al Khasab, Oman, on the southern side of the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UKMTO report.

In recent days, there has been an increase in attacks on ships near Oman. Last Friday, an unnamed tanker that was out of control was attacked at a location about 12 miles (20 kilometers) northeast of Lima, Oman.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, August 1, the captain of another tanker in the Strait of Hormuz reported seeing water splashes and explosions near his ship.
