Minister Of Communication And Information Budi Arie Setiadi: We Take Down 2.9 Million Online Gambling Content

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said his ministry managed to block around 2,945,150 online gambling content in almost a year.

"We have taken down 2,945,150 online gambling content from July 17, 2023 to June 13, 2024," said Budi Arie Setiadi as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, June 16.

The eradication of online gambling content, he explained, was carried out as a form of the Ministry of Communication and Information's commitment to preventing the negative impacts caused by these sites in the community.

"The application for blocking 5,779 bank accounts related to online gambling to OJK has been going on from September 18, 2023 to May 28, 2024," he said.

In fact, the Ministry of Communication and Information has also provided positive notes from July 17, 2023, to June 13, 2024, his party has handled 16,596 gambling pages on educational sites and 18,974 on government websites.

The Ministry of Communication and Information has also sent a strong warning letter to the managers of digital platforms X, Telegram, Google, Meta, and Tiktok which are widely used by elements to disseminate these sites.

"Managers of digital platforms will be fined up to IDR 500 million per content, if they are not cooperative in eradicating online gambling," he stressed.

The eradication that continues to be carried out by the ministry is due to the huge negative impact on its users.

These negative impacts range from economic, social, and even psychology aspects that do not take a little lives.

In eradicating disturbing online gambling sites, his party has explored technology adoption from Google in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate the processing of online gambling content reports so that they are much more effective and efficient.

Minister Budi Arie explained in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 1 of 2024. The Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has prevented the dissemination of content prohibited by statutory regulations through termination of access.
