51 Translators Take Their Oaths, Director General Of AHU: This Is A Honorary Profession

JAKARTA - 51 translators have been sworn in by the Director General of General Legal Administration (Dirjen AHU) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Cahyo Rahadian Muzhar. The oath-taking is in accordance with the qualifications as an oathed translator from Indonesian to foreign languages and vice versa, as evidenced by the competency certificate of the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).

"Until now, 123 translators have been sworn in in various language directions whose oaths have been taken to carry out the profession of translating more diverse legal documents in the midst of inter-state relations traffic," said Cahyo, Thursday (6/6/2024).

The oathed translator profession is needed for the results of the translation of international agreement documents to become the main instrument for the implementation of international cooperative relations, including international law enforcement cooperation, diplomacy relations and business relations, such as documents requesting international legal assistance (request of international judicial assistance), international rotatory application documents (peter of regatory), formal request documents for extradition. official request (formal request) and Apostille Legalization documents.

"The legality of the translation of the oathed translation is a fundamental thing in the cooperation process between countries," he added.

He explained that the sworn translators are people who have expertise in producing translations and have been sworn in by ministers who carry out government affairs in the fields of law and human rights and are registered with ministries that carry out government affairs in the fields of law and human rights.

"I am of the view that this profession is an honorable and very promising profession. Therefore, I hope that you can carry out your duties in a professional, honest and trustworthy manner," he explained.

He asked that the sworn translator be professional, independent and have reliable competence in the field of translation be able to work well together and maintain the code of ethics as an oathed translator.

"The results of the translation of the sworn translator are legal and are evidence that must be admitted to the truth unless it is proven otherwise, an oathed translator must maintain his professional profession," he concluded.
