The public was surprised by the West Java Province Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) contest which promised employees Rp50 thousand every time they arrested and threw cats out of their buildings.

This competition was announced by the General Section of the West Java DPRD Secretariat. In the competition, employees who catch cats are advised to throw the four-legged animal into the market or take it home.

This competition was created on the grounds that the cat population in the West Java DPRD building was too many because it continued to be children. The cats often litter the building environment to existing facilities.

Unfortunately, the attitude of the West Java DPRD Secretariat has drawn criticism from the public. The Instagram account set.dprd.jabar was flooded with comments, most of which considered the West Java DPRD Secretariat to have no empathy for fellow living things.

Animal Defender founder Doni Herdaru also emphasized that this attitude was wrong. Instead of suppressing the cat population in the building, the arrest and disposal of the competition actually causes new problems.

"This actually makes a competition that I think only moves the problem to other places. Solutions from overpopulation, which of course are faced from various regions, including West Java, must be overcome in a human way and win win solution. Don't just move it and then become a burden for other regions," Doni said in his statement, Friday, June 7th.

"Don't let West Java, which is one of the largest provinces, advance, do things that are not good enough. This is a little slap," he added.

Moreover, Doni emphasized, it is not certain that the West Java DPRD building area can be free from the existence of cats because they are disposed of. It is possible that other wild cats will come to make the DPRD building a new area.

The right way for the cat's overpopulation solution, according to Doni, is the sterilization of each cat to prevent re-production.

This can be done because the West Java Food and Livestock Security Service (DKPP) should have a budget and sterilization program through the animal health center (puskesmas).

"It would be nice if the West Java Provincial Government finds a solution, please invite us-we to provide suggestions and input. If we can't be sterile, we have discussed the community for the West Java Provincial Government," he said.
