Tracking Dog Unit Deployed To Help Search For Landslide Victims In Lumajang

The Lumajang Resort Police (Polres), East Java deployed a K9 unit dog to assist the joint SAR Team in the search for landslide victims in Pronojiwo Village who had not been found.

"We have a K9 dog unit that was brought to the landslide site and the dog is assigned to speed up the search for victims buried by landslides and has not been found," said Lumajang Police Chief AKBP Mohammad Zainur Rofik, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 6.

In addition to involving sniffer dogs, the search for landslide victims also involves five units of heavy equipment to search by dredging each side of the landslide material.

Meanwhile, the Lumajang Police K9 Police Tracking Dog Handler, Aipda Fajar, said that the search for victims using sniffer dogs encountered problems, namely piles of landslides which were thick enough, making it difficult to search for victims.

"Nevertheless, sniffer dogs continued to move. The K9 team brought the victim's shirt which was brought by the family and the dog. It was seen several times that they sniffed the mound of landslides," he said.

As of Thursday morning, two victims were found by the joint SAR Team, namely Kusnadi (40), a resident of Pronojiwo Village, who was found on Tuesday, June 5, afternoon, and Dwi Suprapto (35), a resident of Pronojiwo Village who was found on Wednesday afternoon.

Previously, the landslide hit four sand miners in Supit Hamlet, Pronojiwo Village/District, precisely in the lava flow of Mount Semeru which is adjacent to the Perhutani area of plot 4 on Tuesday at 11.30 WIB.

Four people were buried by landslide material, namely Junaedi (26) a resident of Malang Regency, Dwi Suprapto (35) a resident of Pronojiwo Village/District, Kusnadi (40) a resident of Pronojiwo Village/District, Rohim, a resident of Sidomulyo Village-Pronojiwo District.
