SUKABUMI - Hundreds of residents in Sekarwangi Village, Cibadak District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java experienced mass poisoning after eating food at a thanksgiving event ahead of the wedding.

The thanksgiving event was held on Sunday, June 2, at one of the residents' houses, precisely in Cikiwul Lebak Village, RT 01/02, Sekarwangi Village, Cibadak District. However, residents felt symptoms of poisoning starting on Tuesday afternoon.

The village head of Sekarwangi, Abeng Baenuri, confirmed that hundreds of its citizens were poisoned due to food provided by one of its residents who held a wedding celebration.

"So on Sunday there are those who are grateful, they want a celebration and then they come (residents) on Sunday. After that it's okay, but Monday some have started symptoms, but they don't think it's poisoning," he said.

According to Abeng, to determine the cause of the mass poisoning, the police from the Cibadak Police have taken samples from the food remains, which will later be handed over to the Sukabumi District Health Office.

"Tuesday afternoon, at around 17.00, many were affected, so it is predicted that the rest of the food is still there, be it rice or cakes and other processing, the sample has been brought by the police," he said.

Head of Cibadak Sub-district, Mulyadi, said the number of residents who were poisoned was 67 people, while 46 people were taken to Sekarwangi Hospital for treatment.

Symptoms felt by victims of poisoning, namely nausea, dizziness, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. "This is still being handled, there are currently 67. 46 people are being treated by Sekarwangi Hospital. The rest are being treated at the post. We will treat the treatment until it recovers at the hospital. If at the location we will monitor the condition until it is cured," he said.
