Defense Minister Prabowo Calls Indonesia Strengthening Defense Cooperation With Singapore

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia was strengthening cooperation in the defense sector with Singapore.

Indonesia is committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Singapore. The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is ready to increase defense cooperation, especially after the implementation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), including joint training, maritime security, and educational exchange programs," Prabowo said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Saturday, June 1.

Previously, Prabowo attended the Opening Reception IISS Shangri-La Dialogue of the 21st Edition in Singapore. Prabowo then continued his activities by holding a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Singapore Palace, Saturday.

Prabowo started the meeting by expressing his gratitude to Lawrence for the warm welcome and hospitality given during the Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 event. The bilateral meeting aims to strengthen defense cooperation relations between the two countries.

"Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality to me and the Indonesian delegation," he said.

He also said he was honored to be able to speak in forums aimed at promoting regional dialogue to face security challenges, and increasing trust between countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Moreover, he is scheduled to deliver a special address in Shangri-La Dialogue regarding international involvement and commitment to security stability.

In addition, he also congratulated Lawrence for his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Singapore.

He also expressed his appreciation for the leadership and good communication that Lawrence and the Indonesian government have built.
