Batam PSDKP Seals Four Tons Of Illegal Imported Fish From Malaysia

Batam's Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision Base (PSDKP) sealed four tons of diesel fish and frozen tuna for illegal imports from Malaysia that were not equipped with import requirements according to regulations in Batam, Riau Islands.

Head of Batam Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision Base (PSDKP) Turman Hardianto in Batam, Friday said that the illegal fish import effort carried out by PT Sumber Laut Alam was aimed at being distributed in markets.

"The fish were allegedly packages directly from Malaysia and then we traced the documents indicated that they came from Malaysia to Indonesia without official documents," Turman said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 31.

He conveyed that this act needed prevention to enter the Indonesian market, so that the fisheries supervisor took other actions in the form of sealing and further investigation.

"The entry of fish from anywhere must comply with the rules and regulations, cannot fish from Malaysia, Singapore enters Indonesia without official documents because it has been regulated," he said.

Turman emphasized that if the results of the investigation into the company suspected of illegally importing are proven guilty, this company can be subject to criminal to administrative sanctions by PSDKP.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Warehouse of PT Sumber Laut Alam Gunawan said the company, which has been operating for eight years, usually gets fish supplies from local fishermen caught, one of which is from Natuna.

He said the price of imported frozen fish was cheaper, namely Rp. 20,000 per kilogram, while the price of fresh fish reached around Rp. 30,000 per kilogram.

"We market this fish at a price of Rp. 20,000 per kilogram to markets in Batam City. But this has not been distributed," said Gunawan.
