Papuan Student Alliance Report Malang Police Chief To Propam, Asking The Chief Of Police To Intervene

JAKARTA - The Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) officially complained about Malang Police Chief Kombes Leonardus Harapanantua Simarmata to the Police Professional and Security Division due to racial statements. AMP asked the Chief of Police to remove him.

Complaints on racial allegations are registered with the number SPSP2 / 815 / III / 2021 / Bagyandu, Friday 12 March.

"We are officially from Papuan students, we have reported the Malang Police Chief, Mr. Leonardus Simarmata, who issued a very racist and discriminatory statement against Papuan students in Malang City," said the lawyer for the Papuan Student Alliance, Michael Himan, to reporters Friday, March 12.

In the complaint, said Michael, his party asked Kombes Leonardus Harapanantua Simarmata to apologize. AMP also asked the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to remove Leonardus from the position of police chief.

"Yes (request) apologize and can be dismissed from the post of Chief of Police," he said.

This complaint originated from a statement by the Head of Malang Police which had a racial element so that it could provoke the emotions of other Papuans. The statement of the Malang Police Chief went viral on social media.

"So we are worried that every social media is very viral and the response from the WhatsApp group must be reported otherwise it will spread to Papua," he said.

The head of Malang Police's racial statement began when Papuan students staged an action in front of the Malang Police to ask their arrested colleagues to be released.

Several Papuan students were arrested by the police while holding an International Women's Day demonstration, on Monday, March 8. This activity is the Women's Solidarity Movement with the People that voices the issue of women and the rejection of special autonomy (autonomy).

The statement of Kombes Leonardus which was considered racial was ordering his members to shoot the students if they broke into the Malang Police.

"Shoot, shoot, shoot dead. If the door is smashed, shoot. Their blood is lawful," Michael said, imitating the Police Chief's statement.
