BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police are investigating the involvement of Pegi Setiawan's parents, alias Perong, the main perpetrator in Vina's murder case, for hiding her child to a fugitive for eight years.
"Yes, I think it is one of the possible efforts of the family to hide the whereabouts of this Setiawan by tricking the environment," said West Java Police General Criminal Investigation Director Kombes Surawan to reporters in Bandung as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 27.
Surawan explained that Pegi Setiawan changed his identity to Robi Irawan when he moved to Katapang, Bandung Regency, in 2016. Pegi and his biological father introduced himself to the rented owner as his nephew.
"This is corroborated by the statement of the contract owner that we have asked for information. Likewise, the name has been changed, not anymore PS, but uses the name Robi," he said.
During his escape, continued Surawan, the alleged mastermind behind Vina's murder had returned to Cirebon in 2019 and returned to Bandung Regency to look for work.
"And according to information from the head of the RT where PS lives, when he returns home he often wears a mask so he tries to trick the environment," said Surawan.
Investigators from the West Java Regional Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate have worked optimally and assured that the case was disclosed transparently.
"So, I need to say here that no official child is involved here. We are very cooperative and transparent regarding this investigation," he said.
