Jokowi Discourse 3 Periods, Hendri Satrio: Can continue later 4, 5, 6, Or Even More

JAKARTA - Political communication expert Hendri Satrio said he was surprised by the suggestion that the presidential term was changed to three terms. According to him, the rules regarding the term of office of the president just follow the existing laws and regulations.

"I am confused about who proposed the three terms for the first time, just follow the constitution, it doesn't matter", said Hendri in a webinar discussion entitled Presidency for 3 Periods, Thursday, March 11.

The director of the shop's survey institute assessed that the proposed three terms may only provoke a response from all parties, whether they agree if Jokowi continues his leadership or two terms are sufficient. If many agree it is possible to change the constitution.

"But in my opinion, if there really is no need for something very urgent and specifically to be changed into law, three periods, are not necessary. But if it turns out that there must be something urgent and must be changed, please change it", explained Hendri.

Hendri said the two terms of the president's term become jurisprudence in other countries which are suitable for the two terms. Then Indonesia tried to adopt.

So, he said, if the rules were added later, who would guarantee that after three terms there would be no change in the presidential term of office, it could be four, five to six terms, or even more.

"Because if three periods are allowed later, who can guarantee that there won't be changes to four periods, five periods, six periods? That's a hassle", said Hendri.

For that, according to Hendri, there is no need for an additional presidential term. Even though the president is considered to be an accomplished person.

"If you are asked whether President Jokowi is doing well, I think it is an achievement. Sir SBY also performed yesterday. Every president has his own achievement, so I think it is a bit too much if there is an idea of three terms, there shouldn't be any", he said.

Previously, political observer Rocky Gerung assessed that it was possible for Jokowi to re-serve as president in the third term as a bonus, if he was considered to be outstanding in his leadership report card.

"We should first investigate whether there is achievement? If it is possible to get a bonus, it could be three periods", said Rocky on the same occasion.
