KSP Values Free Sentence Of Activists Rejecting Shrimp Mining Daniel Frits Evidence Of Human Rights Enforcement Never Dies

JAKARTA - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) considers the acquittal of activists who reject shrimp ponds in Karimunjawa Daniel Frits Maurits Tangkilisan in the appeal application, is proof of human rights enforcement (HAM) and justice never dies.

"The decision of the Panel of Judges at the Semarang High Court is a landmark decision because the main consideration of the panel of judges considers the defendant to be proven to be a environmental fighter and a human rights defender," said Deputy V KSP for Political, Legal and Human Rights, Rumadi Ahmad, in a press release, Wednesday, May 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

As is known, the Panel of Judges at the Semarang High Court (PT) received an appeal from Daniel Frits for the violation of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). Previously, Daniel Frits was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Jepara District Court.

Rumadi assessed that the decision of the Panel of Judges at the Semarang High Court to be free, had considered Daniel Frits' position as a fighter of the right to a good and healthy environment, and human rights defenders who must be protected.

The former chairman of the Lakpesdan PBNU also assessed that the decision of the Panel of Judges refers to the Regulation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning Guidelines for Providing Environmental Cases, in which Article 48 states that legal protection is given to everyone who fights for the right to a good and healthy environment.

"This decision is an inspiration and reference for other judges who handle cases related to the environment, or cases involving those whose activities defend human rights," he said.

Daniel Frits' free sentence which coincided with the 26th anniversary of Reform, continued Rumadi, became a sweet gift as well as a sign that human rights and justice which were one of the demands for reform in 1998 never died.
