JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) stated that it had written to the West Java Regional Police to ensure the enforcement of a murder case in Cirebon with the victim named Vina Dewi Arsita.

"As one of the efforts to ensure law enforcement in this case, Komnas HAM again asked for information from the West Java Regional Police through letter Number 380/PM.00/K/V/2024 dated May 20, 2024," said the Coordinator of Human Rights Enforcement Sub-Commission Uli Parulian Sihombing as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 21.

He said the letter contained several things of pressure, namely asking for information regarding the progress of the search for three people who had been designated as DPO (wanted list) in the murder case of Vina and her lover, Eky, namely Pegi alias Perong, Andi, and Dani.

Komnas HAM asked the West Java Regional Police to provide information regarding the follow-up and legal process against the three people who became DPOs.

Finally, Komnas HAM asked the West Java Regional Police to ensure the protection and fulfillment of the right to justice and legal certainty against the families of the victims.

"Meanwhile, for the ongoing law enforcement process, Komnas HAM respects the decisions of the Supreme Court, the West Java High Court, and the Bandung District Court," he said.

He also expressed concern over the absence of the three perpetrators.

In addition, in response to information regarding a complaint to Komnas HAM submitted by one of the perpetrator's lawyers, he said that Komnas HAM on September 13, 2016 had received complaints from attorneys Hadi Saputra, Suprianto, Eko Ramadani, and Saka Tatal.

"The issues that were complained about the alleged obstruction to meeting with family and attorneys, coercion of recognition as perpetrators, and allegations of torture," he said.

Following up on the complaint, said Uli, Komnas HAM has asked for clarification from the West Java Regional Police Irwasda through letter Number 0.131/K/PMT/I/2017 dated January 20, 2017.

In the letter, Komnas HAM asked Irwasda Polda West Java to conduct an examination of investigators suspected of carrying out torture and obstacles to family visits, processing discipline and criminal acts for perpetrators of torture, ensuring the rights of suspects in accordance with Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights and Criminal Procedure Code, and meeting standards for handling children in law.

It is known that Vina's murder and rape took place in August 2016. The Cirebon teenager was murdered with his girlfriend, Muhammad Rizky or Eky.

A total of 11 perpetrators were involved in the tragic incident. However, only eight suspects have been arrested and prosecuted, until they are convicted. The other three suspects are still at large today.

The three perpetrators who are on the wanted list (DPO) with the current age estimate are Pegi aliasn Perong (30), Andi (31), and Dani (28).

This case resurfaced after a film entitled "Vina: Before 7 Days" received public attention because the case still leaves three suspects who have not been caught.
