JAKARTA - Hepatitis Vaccination B is very much needed as an important prevention from liver disease, this was stated by the Head of the Hepatability Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Prof. Dr. dr. Rino Alvani Gani, SpPD-KGEH, FINASIM.

"Primary prevention is carried out by vaccinating Hepatitis B which has been proven to reduce the incidence of liver cancer," said Rino in a 'Heart Cancer Safe Webinar' monitored in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, May 18.

Rino said that Hepatitis B vaccination reduces the risk of a person suffering from liver disease as shown by research in the 1980s to the early 1990s, where the number of people with liver cancer continues to decline from year to year.

He said that currently the Hepatitis B vaccine has been given to newborns to prevent the risk of liver cancer.

In addition, pregnant women who are indicated to be positive Hepatitis B are also given therapy so as to reduce the potential for transmission to their newborn children.

Furthermore, regular ultrasonography (USG) also needs to be done regularly every six months.

The professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, said that the public is also advised not to consume food or drinks that contain alcohol in the long term so that health is maintained.

"It seems like a hassle, but obviously this provides better benefits than if there is liver cancer," he said.

Rino appealed to people who have had Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or others who are in the severe category to be willing to do periodic ultrasound so that the risk of liver cancer can be suppressed.

According to him, early detection is very important in the recovery of liver cancer because not a few patients who come have been in serious condition, so it requires advanced treatment efforts.

He emphasized that liver cancer is closely related to infections with the Hepatitis B virus and the Hepatitis C virus, although it is also found without infection with these viruses.

"The treatment is still difficult and expensive. Therefore, vaccination and healthy living behavior can be prevented, maintain weight and exercise so that metabolism remains good," he said.
