Must Resign From Elected Candidates, Dede Yusuf Is Not Interested In Promoting The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - DPR member from the Democratic Faction Dede Yusuf openly admitted that he was not interested in advancing in the 2024 Pilkada, either in the DKI Jakarta or West Java Pilgub. The reason is, the condition for running for cagub must resign from the elected candidate.

"Yesterday, the results of Commission II with the KPU said that the elected legislative candidate had to resign. That means if I go forward, go back twice," said Dede, Thursday, May 16.

"My registration must be withdrawn from the current (members of the DPR), and later I have to withdraw from the later (elected candidates), everything is gone," he continued.

The West Java electoral district legislator assessed that there were still other Democratic cadres who were more competent than him. "So that's what makes me think there might be someone better than me," he said.

Dede also can be honest if there is no intention of running for the Pilkada because it is considered detrimental.

"(Rejecting, red) Yes, with this condition not, it is not an option that is good for me or beneficial for me," said Dede.

Previously, the General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that candidates for legislative members (caleg) elected for the 2024 General Election were required to submit a letter of willingness to resign if they came forward as a candidate pair for regional head in the 2024 Pilkada. KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said the resignation was so that there would be clarity regarding the status of the candidate.

Hasyim explained, according to the rules in Article 19 of the RPKPU regarding the nomination of the election, then if the elected candidate is designated as a candidate pair for regional head, the legislative candidate must send a letter to the KPU which contains his willingness to resign from the status of the elected candidate.

"So that once the provincial, district/city KPU has determined the person concerned as a candidate or candidate for the Pilkada participant on September 22, 2024, the person concerned must immediately submit a letter of resignation as an elected candidate," said Hasyim in a working meeting with Commission II of the DPR at the parliament complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, May 15.

"So that the path taken is clear, whether to become a candidate for regional head or a member of the DPR, DPD," he continued.
