Bribery Case Red Notice Joko Tjandra, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo Sentenced To 3.5 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor) sentenced Brig. Gen. Prasetijo Utomo to 3.5 years in prison. Brigadier General Prasetijo was found guilty in the bribery case of Joko Tjandra red notice.

"The trial states that the defendant Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo is legally proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption," said chief judge Muhammad Damis during a trial at the Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor), Jakarta, March 10.

The panel of judges stated that Brigadier General Prasetijo was found guilty of violating Article 5 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code.

The verdict of the panel of judges was based on burdensome and mitigating considerations.

Considering burdensome, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo is considered not supporting the government's program in eradicating corruption. In addition, he is also considered to have damaged the image or good name of the National Police institution in the eyes of the public.

"It is a worrying consideration that Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo has served at the Police Institution for 30 years, behaves politely, and admits his actions," said Damis.

Previously, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo was charged by the public prosecutor (JPU) with 2.5 years imprisonment. He was also demanded to pay a fine of Rp. 100 million, a subsidiary of 6 months

In addition, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo when he was the former Head of the Supervisory Coordinating Bureau (Karo Korwas) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, was said to have received 100 thousand US dollars worth of money.

The money was given by Tommy Sumardi to remove Joko Tjandra's name from the DPO list at Immigration and red notice.
