After the bridge was cut off after being hit by floods and landslides on Friday, May 3, around 3,000 residents in Latimojong District, Luwu are still isolated today due to difficult access.

Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Bahtiar Bahharuddin through his statement in Makassar, Saturday said that with the area located in the mountains, around 3,000 residents in Latimojong District are isolated and waiting for assistance that is expected to arrive by air.

"Based on information from the Luwu Dandim, the Latimojong area cannot be accessed because there are cut roads and landslides causing several villages and hamlets there to be isolated," he said, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, May 4.

However, the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi together with the South Sulawesi Regional Police are working on assistance by air. In addition, assistance efforts were also carried out in coordination with Danlanud Hasanuddin to mobilize helicopters by bringing food and medicine assistance.

"We ask Latimojong residents to remain calm because we from the government ensure that we distribute aid immediately," added Bahtiar.

Nevertheless, Acting Regent Luwu Muh Saleh said that the flood conditions had begun to recede even though there were still residents who had fled, waiting for the process of cleaning their houses.

Muhammad Saleh expressed his hope that the weather would return to normal within the next 2-3 days, allowing residents to return to their homes and begin the recovery process.

"Now the flood conditions are starting to recede. There are still people who have fled to wait for the house to be cleaned," he said.

The current condition shows that even though the disaster has had a significant impact, the enthusiasm to rise and restore the situation remains strong in the hearts of the Luwu people.

Acting Regent Luwu hopes that support will continue to flow and synergize between the government and the community can accelerate the recovery process.
