JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential for moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in a number of provinces in Indonesia on Friday, May 3, 2024. Quoted on the official website of the BMKG reported by ANTARA, areas that have the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are in Bali, Bangka Belitung, Banten, Gorontalo. Then, Jambi, West Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Lampung. Then, Maluku, North Maluku, NTT, Papua, West Papua, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sumatra, North Sulawesi, South Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Based on information on the development of the BMKG season, about 63 percent of the season zone area is predicted to experience the beginning of the dry season from May to August 2024.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto stated that in the next week, the BMKG will identify the potential for a significant increase in rainfall, namely in most Sumatra, western and central Java, parts of Kalimantan and Sulawesi, Maluku and most of Papua. "The significant rain potential occurs due to the contribution from Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) activity, Kelvin Waves and Equatorial Rossby, as well as the warm sea level temperature conditions in the waters of the surrounding Indonesia," said Guswanto.
