Ile Lewotolok NTT Volcano Earthquake 348 Times, Residents Threatened With Lava Landslides

KUPANG- The Ile Lewotolok Volcano Observation Post in Ile Ape District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) reported that starting Wednesday (1/5) at 00.00 WITA until 24.00 WITA there were 348 gusts.

"There were 348 times the seismic activity occurred at the top of Mount Lewotolok," said the officer who made the report on the observations of Mount Ile Lewotolok Fajaruddin M. Balido from Lembata, quoted from ANTARA, Thursday, May 2 morning.

He explained that of the 348 earthquake gusts, the amplitude ranged from 1.4-22.4 millimeters, with a duration of 19 to 152 seconds.

Meanwhile, other seismic activity also occurred, such as shallow volcanic numbers 12 times with an amplitude of 1.1 to 6.5 millimeters with a duration of 4 to 10 seconds.

Then the inner Volcanic amounted to 10 times with amplitudes ranging from 1.4 to 10 millimeters with a duration of 5 to 17 seconds. While the distant tectonics were recorded only once with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters with a duration of 96 seconds.

He added that visually the mountain is clear with the district category in the 0-I range. Meanwhile, weak pressure crater smoke was observed to be white with a thin, medium, thick, and high intensity of 25-400 meters above the crater peak.

"Mounts were also observed that there was a beam of fire at the summit and a weak roar, nihil," he said.

He added that the status of the mountain is also still in level III or alert status. Then based on the weekly report submitted by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), it was stated that volcanic activity on the mountain was still quite high.

Therefore, the Geological Agency also recommends the people of Lamatokan Village and Jontona to be aware of the potential threat of avalanches or lava avalanches and hot clouds from the eastern part of the peak or crater of the mountain.

Meanwhile, the people of Jontona and Todanara villages are recommended not to enter the southern and southeast sectoral areas as far as three kilometers from the center of mountain activity.
