Samarinda Police Set Mother And Stepfather Persecuting 8-Year-Old Child

SAMARINDA - Samarinda City Police have named parents with the initials AK ( biological mother) and JB (real father) as suspects in the case of abuse of an eight-year-old child at a rented house on Siradj Salman Street, Samarinda.

"The chronology of the incident began with a public report on April 25, 2024. The Sungai Pinang Police immediately went to the location and found the child locked in the house," said Samarinda Police Chief Kombes Ary Fadli as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 30.

When found, the child suffered injuries to his body. The Samarinda Police immediately did a post-mortem to determine the cause of the wound.

Based on the results of the post-mortem, it was found wounds from hot water and other injuries that resulted in fractures. The police then examined the witness and managed to secure the victim's parents on Friday (26/4).

"These two parents are subject to Article 44 paragraph 1 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence with the threat of a sentence of five years in prison," explained Ary.

He continued that the threat of a suspect's sentence could be increased by a third because it was carried out by his biological parents.

According to the suspect's statement, they abused the victim for being naughty. However, the Chief of Police confirmed that the facts found were not in accordance with the suspect's confession.

"The post-mortem results show old and growing wounds. This indicates that abuse has been going on for a long time," he said.

This case is still in the process of further investigation. The police will also provide assistance to victims to help with trauma recovery.

Ary appealed to the public to dare to report if they knew of acts of violence against children.

"Let's protect children together from all forms of violence," said Ary.

He said violence against children is an act that cannot be justified. Every child has the right to live safely and free from violence.
