Pelindo Gelontorkan Rp1 Billion Renovation Of Passenger Terminal In Manokwari, West Papua

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Manokwari has spent more than IDR 1 billion this year to renovate the passenger terminal at Manokwari Port, West Papua Province.

General Manager (GM) of Pelindo Regional IV Manokwari Tjahjo Wibowo, said the renovation of the passenger terminal began in July 2024.

"Anggaran dari PT Pelindo Pusat. Untuk tahun ini ada 11 port se-Indonesia yang akan direnovasi oleh Pelindo, Manokwari salah satunya," katanya di Manokwari, Papua Baray, Jumat 26 April, disitat Antara.

He said the construction was focused on expanding the capacity of the passenger terminal and installing the canopy or roof from the passenger terminal to the dock.

In addition, it is also to build passenger guardrails, signs, information boards and announcement sites to provide various appeals to passengers.

He explained that the manufacture of canopy is needed so that passengers can be more comfortable when going to the dock to board the ship. Passengers will also be protected from the weather such as rain.

"The main concern of Pelindo is the comfort of passengers when using the passenger terminal. With this renovation, we hope that passengers will not get hot, it will not rain on their way to the ship," he said.

He added, with the renovation, it is hoped that passengers can be more orderly and not spread to the pier as is currently happening.

According to him, by making a canopy later, passengers can be more regulated, because the entry and exit routes will be distinguished.

"Those who are not passengers will not be able to get to the ship, it is planned that the place to enter the dock is only one door through the passenger terminal. As for entering the terminal, passengers must show tickets and boarding passes," he said.

Tjahjo said, during the renovation period, PT Pelindo will transfer services to the temporary terminal to be made. The temporary terminal has been used before.

As for the procurement of X-Ray and Garbarata machines, he said it could not be done this year. For the procurement of X-Ray and Garbarata machines, it is necessary to review the volume of passengers and the amount of retribution obtained.

"Pelindo has a service orientation, we also have to meet the business side. For X-Ray and Garbarata, of course, it must be seen based on needs, not immediately installed," he said.

He also appealed to the people of Manokwari who enter the port to participate in maintaining the order and cleanliness of the port. In addition, residents are also asked to pay an orderly amount that has been determined. "Don't be proud if you enter without paying fees. Instead, we have to be proud when you pay when you enter, because that means we will help build the port we love," he said.
