Regional Autonomy Day 2024, Moeldoko: It's Time For Regions To Take A Role In Realizing A Green Economy

SURABAYA Presidential Chief of Staff, (KSP) Moeldoko, together with the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, attended the commemoration of the 28th Regional Autonomy Day (Otoda) at the Surabaya City Hall, Thursday, April 25, 2024. This year's Otoda Day carries the theme 'Resilient Regional Autonomy Towards a Green Economy and a Healthy Environment'.

Moeldoko assessed that the theme of the 2024 Otoda brings enthusiasm to the government, including local governments, in managing natural resources and the environment in a sustainable manner. This is in line with Indonesia's commitment to realizing green and sustainable economic development, as well as efforts to answer the challenges of the threat of climate change.

"This spirit must be strengthened by regional heads to transform new ideas towards a green economy and a healthy environment because the threat of climate change is real. And now is the time for regions to take a role," said Moeldoko after attending the Otoda Day commemoration ceremony.

Moeldoko also emphasized that the implementation of the Otoda must be encouraged to take an active role in implementing policies and programs that support the green economy and environmental conservation. He gave an example of the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly transportation by developing an electric vehicle ecosystem, and sustainable waste management.

"Regional autonomy is expected to contribute to realizing sustainable development, namely balancing economic, social and environmental aspects for future generations in accordance with President Jokowi's vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," he said.

To note, the commemoration of Regional Autonomy Day is stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 11/1996 concerning Regional Autonomy Day falls on April 25. The commemoration of Otoda Day is expected to be a momentum to evaluate and correct the implementation of the Otoda.

Otoda is the right and regional authority for autonomy to regulate and manage government affairs and the interests of local governments in the Indonesian government system, as mandated in Law No. 23/2014 on Regional Governments.

On the commemoration of the year's Otoda Day, the Satyalancana Karya Bhakti Praja Nugraha was also presented to regional heads who were considered to have very high performance in organizing local governments. Among them, the Governor of East Java 2019-2024, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, the Regent of Kulon Progo 2017-2022, Sutedjo, the Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandini Azwar Anas, the Regent of Badung 2018-2023, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, and the Mayor of Medan, M. Bobby Afif Nasution.
