JAKARTA - Lebanese armed groups Hezbollah said they had shot down an Israeli drone in the southern part of the country.
"Islamic resistance fighters have shot down an enemy drone in the Al Aishayeh region of southern Lebanon at 22:50 (02:50 WIB, Monday) on Sunday," the statement read.
Hezbollah identified the drone as Hermes 450, which is a multi-producing combat drone Elbit Systems based in Haifa. The drone is designed for reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
The Israeli armed forces (IDF) later confirmed that their drone had been shot down by a land-to-air missile in Lebanon.
"The IAF fighter jet (Israel's airlift) attacked the site of the missile launch that had been fired," the IDF said in a statement on Telegram.
The Israeli military also said it would continue to operate in Lebanese airspace to "protect the Israeli state."
Israel and Hezbollah have carried out regular airstrikes since October 2023, when the situation in the region worsened dramatically after Israel launched military operations in the Gaza Strip - following the attack of the Palestinian Hamas movement on October 7.
