The Constitutional Court Calls Major Teddy's Presence In The Presidential Election Debate Not A Violation

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) decided that Major Teddy Indra Wijaya's presence in the line of supporters during the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) debate was not a violation. Although, Prabowo's aide is an active TNI soldier.

"The Court has the belief that this does not violate the provisions of the applicable laws," said Judge Arsul Sani in the trial of the presidential election dispute case at the Constitutional Court, Monday, April 22.

The decision, said Asrul, was after the court examined the petitioner's argument carefully, the respondent's answer, the information from the relevant parties, the proof of the letter/written submitted by the applicant, Bawaslu's statement and the evidence submitted.

The Court also considered the issue of the petitioner's problem that had been resolved by Bawaslu.

"Based on the results of the initial study, which concluded that there were no allegations of election violations in the form of TNI neutrality carried out by Major Teddy Indra Wijaya," said Arsul.

The Court stated that Major Teddy was present at the presidential candidate debate organized by the KPU in order to serve as Prabowo's aide or security officer who served as Minister of Defense.

Moreover, this is considered in accordance with the provisions of the Election Law.

"As this is in accordance with the provisions of Article 281 paragraph (1) letter a of the Election Law which states that the election campaign that includes the president, vice president, minister, governor, deputy governor, regent, deputy regent, mayor and deputy mayor must meet the provisions of not using facilities in their positions, except for security facilities for state officials as stipulated in the provisions of the legislation," said Arsul.

Meanwhile, Mayor Teddy's presence during the presidential election debate became a conversation on social media. He, who is a TNI soldier, was considered not neutral because he sat in the stands supporting Prabowo-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Major Teddy is known to wear a typical Prabowo-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair uniform, which is a light blue. This was taken during the first presidential candidate debate held at the KPU Office, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
