DKI Disdik Affirms No Changes In New School Uniforms After Eid

Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Purwosusilo, emphasized that there were no changes to the provisions regarding the new uniforms for students at school.

This is in response to the recent commotion of netizens. Many assume that there will be changes in school uniforms after this year's Eid holiday based on the latest Kemendikbudristek rules.

"Yes, nothing new (related to changes to school uniforms). Later, Eid will run out, according to the old rules," said Purwosusilo when contacted, Tuesday, April 16.

Purwosusilo emphasized that the regional education office has not received any notification regarding changes to the school uniform rules. This is because news about this has only been circulating on social media.

"The issue is on social media like that. However, we don't have an official letter yet. We institutionally have to receive an official circular regarding it. Later there will definitely be derivative regulations. Maybe by the Director General, the Secretary General, we will study it," he said.

For now, Purwosusilo admitted that his party is still reviewing the latest regulations from the Ministry of Education and Culture and coordinating with the central government regarding the imposition of school uniforms.

"That's why we can't rashly take a stand. We have to learn first. Later we will coordinate, communicate directly with the Ministry of Education and Culture," he said.

In fact, the latest rules regarding student school uniforms by the Ministry of Education and Culture were issued in 2022, namely Permendikbud Number 50 of 2022 concerning School Uniforms for Students. Elementary Teaching and Secondary Teaching Levels. The rules are:

- SD/SDLB levels: white shirt tops and red-hearted pants or skirts for the SD-SMPLB/SMPLB level: white shirt tops and dark blue pants or skirts - SMA/SMALB/SMK/SMKLB levels: White shirt tops and gray pants or skirts Then, there is also scout uniforms, referring to figures and uniform colors regulated by the National Scout Movement Kwartir.

Indeed, the regulation signed by the Minister of Education and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, on September 7, added a typical school uniform as well as traditional clothes.

The school's Typical Uniform as shown in Article 8 is a uniform that reads "ordered by schools by looking at the rights of each student to carry out their religion and trust in God Almighty according to their beliefs."

Then, there are traditional clothes. The stipulation regarding the application of clothing in schools is stated in Article 9 which reads "The features and colors of traditional clothes as referred to in Article 4 are regulated by the Regional Government by looking at the rights of each student to carry out their religion and trust in God Almighty like their beliefs."

Through this Permendikbud, in October 2022, Nadiem said that the procurement of school uniforms is the responsibility of parents or guardians of students. The central government, local governments in accordance with their authority, schools, and the community can help procure school uniforms and traditional clothes for underprivileged participants.

However, Nadiem emphasized that schools should not regulate the obligation that places a burden on parents to buy new school uniforms for each class increase and/or acceptance of new students.
