Palembang Polrestabes Bans Takbiran Night Convoy

Palembang Polrestabes, South Sumatra, forbade local people to carry out convoys of two-wheeled and four-wheeled motorized vehicles on the eve of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri.

"Residents of Bumi Sriwijayadi are asked to comply with the ban on convoys so that takbiran night pads do not happen things that are not desirable," said Palembang Police Chief Kombes Harryo Sugihartono as reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 8.

He said Palembang Polrestabes personnel would conduct patrols on protocol roads in the city on the night of the takbiran. If there are residents who use motorized vehicles, the convoy will be dealt with according to legal provisions.

"We will take firm action against residents who carry out takbiran around with convoys of vehicles on protocol roads on the eve of Eid al-Fitr," he said.

Harryo appealed to Palembang residents to do takbiran in mosques or prayer rooms around houses or residential areas.

"The night takbiran is highly anticipated and welcomed by Muslims with joy at echoing the greatness of Allah SWT, but don't overdo the convoy to take to the streets," he said.

If residents are busy taking to the streets holding mobile takbiran, it can cause traffic jams and things that can cause disturbances in security and public order (kamtibmas).

"We hope that the participation of all parties and levels of society will maintain a well-maintained kamtibmas so far so that Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri can be celebrated with joy," said Palembang Police Chief.
