Minister Of Transportation: Homecoming Travel Must Be Divided So That It Is Easy To Regulate, Reduce Potential Fatality

The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that the Lebaran homecoming journey must not take place at one time so that it is easy to regulate and minimize potential fatality.

"If last year the travelers went home at the same time at night so that the afternoon was empty, this year there was no difference, so there needed to be a breakup effort," he said, at a press conference at the Jasamarga Transjawa Tol office, Karawang, West Java, reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 8.

This effort to break the wave of travelers is also one of the results of an evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, Police, and Jasamarga Transjawa Toll Road, for the traffic accident at km 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road.

Therefore, he targets that the breaking mechanism can at least be applied to the backflow of Lebaran which is expected to take place on Saturday (13/4) or Sunday (14/4).

Thus, his party hopes that similar incidents will not happen again and the flow of people's travel will be smooth.

"This incident is an expensive lesson and we take that lesson to prepare better in the future," he said.

An accident on the opposite lane at km 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road occurred on Monday morning. This accident involved three vehicles, namely Primajasa Bus number B 7655 TGD, Gran Max number B 1635 BKT and Daihatsu Terios.

In addition to the two injured people, there were 12 other people who died as a result of the accident, consisting of seven men and five women.

The 12 people who died were in the relocation room of the body of the Karawang Hospital.

In the accident, the Gran Max and Terios cars were burned down. The 12 victims were passengers of the Gran Max car. Meanwhile, from the Terios car, there were no victims, and from the Primajasa bus, two people were injured.
