SIAK - The joint fire team found the carcass of a two-meter python roasted to death around the location of forest and land fires in Kampung Teluk Masjid, Siak, Riau.

"The firefighting team found him at the boundary between a burning forest and a forest that was still green," said the Head of the Fire Department of the Siak Regional Disaster Management Agency, Irwan Priyatna, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 4.

The snakes were found on the burning peatlands likely trying their way to the unburned land. Because the snake was found dead on the border between the flames and green land.

"There is a strong suspicion that the snake died as a result of being trapped by the heat of the flames," said Irwan.

He said that the snake was found when the team carried out sweeping around the location to make sure there were no more hotspots. The firefighting team is chasing a fire that is burning bushes.

"When the fire was extinguished, faintly behind the smoke, there was a python measuring about 2 meters long, which had died," he said.

Forest and land fires have occurred in Teluk Mesjid since Wednesday, March 3, with a land area of about three hectares. Now the forest and land fires in Siak have reached more than 50 hectares. Based on data from BPBD Riau Province, Sungai Apit is the location of the most cases of forest and land fires.
