Mahfud MD Highlights Corruption Case: Yesterday's Political Constraints, Now Let's Hunt For Criminals

JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number three, Mahfud MD, asked law enforcement officials to return to work, including to hunt down perpetrators of corruption.

This was conveyed by Mahfud MD when alluding to the corruption case of the mining business license (IUP) of PT Timah Tbk for the 2015-2022 period which dragged the husband of the artist Sandra Dewi, Harvey Moeis. He said law enforcement officers such as the police, the Attorney General's Office, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had to return to work after being disturbed by the 2024 election.

"Now there are already nickel corruptors and so on with trillions of them and a lot of networks. Not to mention these other mines so that law enforcers work again," Mahfud told reporters in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, April 3.

"Yesterday may have been a bit disturbed by politics, constrained by politics and now let's fix this country by re-enforcing the law, hunting down criminals, especially corruptors," he continued.

The former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) said that law enforcement officers did seem less nervous when the 2024 presidential election took place.

Therefore, Mahfud hopes that they will start to look at the perpetrators of corruption because the public's attention has been diverted from politics.

Moreover, currently the democratic party is entering the disputed judicial process in the 2024 presidential election. "Whatever the results, we will wait," he said.

"But now we have to start realizing that we are hunting down corruptors again, identifying because now there are many drug networks, corruption of various natural resources, mines, and so on so that they can be watched again," concluded Mahfud.
