DIY Police Deploy 4,846 Ketupat Progo Operations Personnel 2024

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta Special Region Police (DIY) deployed 4,846 joint personnel at the 2024 Ketupat Progo Operation which was held from April 4 to 16 to secure the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah.

"A total of 3,063 Polri personnel plus 1,783 additional personnel, 4,846 personnel are ready to carry out this Ketupat Operation activity," said DIY Police Chief Inspector General Suwondo Nainggolan as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 1.

According to Suwondo, the thousands of personnel were prepared, including to anticipate the high number of travelers entering DIY, which is estimated to reach 11.7 million people or the fourth largest nationally.

"Security targets are activities from breaking the fast together, Eid prayers, gathering activities and all other activities along with predetermined places and times, which have been conceptualized for security," said the Kapolda.

According to Suwondo, joint personnel at the same time support security activities for the availability of basic commodities for the community, including anticipating when a disaster occurs when the homecoming flow is based on standard operating procedures that have been prepared.

"The point is that the message from the Governor (DIY) earlier, what is being done in 2024 must be better than what has been implemented in 2023," he said.

Kapolda said the security plan was also prepared to anticipate three peak traffic points in DIY during Lebaran, namely during homecoming, tourist flow entering DIY, and backflow.

In order to anticipate traffic congestion, the Yogyakarta Regional Police has prepared a traffic engineering scheme to be adjusted to the needs in the field.

Traffic engineering will be prepared to anticipate the flow of vehicles being caught in line with the planned opening of the Yogyakarta-Solo toll road functionally in the upcoming Eid.
